30th Annual Maritime Classic Road Race on Bald Head Island

This year marks the 30th anniversary for the annual Maritime Classic Road Race on Bald Head Island, NC. This year's race will be held on Saturday, November 8th, 2014. If you are planning to attend this popular family event, then here is everything you need to know, from where to reserve your spot to how to save on your Bald Head Island vacation rentals.

What is the Maritime Classic Road Race?

The Maritime Classic Road Race is an annual run held on Bald Head Island that helps raise funds and awareness for the Old Baldy Foundation. The Maritime Classic consists of three different races – a one mile Fun Run, a 5k race, and a USA Track and Field Certified 10k race.A portion of the proceeds from this day-long event gets donated to the Old Baldy Foundation to support their Fresnel Lens fundraising campaign. The Old Baldy Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that owns and operates Old Baldy, the oldest lighthouse in North Carolina. It uses the funds it obtains through donations and charitable events like the Maritime Classic to maintain and preserve the Old Baldy Lighthouse.

Race Times and Prizes

The Fun Run is the day's first race, and it starts promptly at 12 noon on November 8th. The 5k and 10k runs each start at 12:30 pm. Following the races, an awards ceremony will be held on the grounds of the Old Baldy Lighthouse. The male and female winners of the 10k race will each win a $250 gift certificate to Omega Sports. Prize packages will also be awarded to the male and female winners of the 5k race and although the Fun Run is open to all ages, its prize packages will only be awarded to runners aged 12 and younger.

Registration Fees

Runners who are looking to participate in this year's Maritime Classic Road Race can register early and save on their registration fees. As long as your entry form is postmarked no later than November 1st, your fee for participating will be $50 which included the race entry fee, a t-shirt, and round trip ferry passage to Bald Head Island. Or, you can pay $35 for just the race entry fee and t-shirt. If you wait until the day of the event to register, then fees will be $55 for the race entry fee, a t-shirt, and round trip ferry passage or $40 for just the race entry fee and t-shirt. Race day registration and race packet pick up will be available on the grounds of Old Baldy starting at 9:30 am through 11:45 am on the day of the race. Race day ferry tickets will be available at Deep Point, lower level, at the Maritime Classic registration table.
