On October 23rd and 24th, the Bluefish Bonanza Surfcasting Tournament will once again be taking place on beautiful Bald Head Island NC. The tournament is an annual family-friendly event that not only offers participants the opportunity to enjoy some of the best fall fishing along North Carolina's coast but it’s cheap to enter and the rewards are bigger than ever this year with some prize packages worth thousands of dollars!
All you have to do to win is catch the most qualified bluefish. If you want to compete in the 2015 Bluefish Bonanza Surfcasting Tournament, here's everything you need to know.
Friday and Saturday Schedules
Friday, October 23rd – The day’s festivities get underway at 9am, with the tournament’s official Registration being held at Harborside Pavilion along Keelson Row. Registration ends at 5pm, so get there early so you don’t miss your spot. From 3pm to 5pm Fishing School will be held, also at Harborside Pavilion, so newcomers can test out the waters before the tournament begins. At 5pm, the official Captain's Meeting will be held at Harborside Pavilion, followed by the annual Bluefish Social and reception dinner at 5:30pm.
Saturday, October 24th – On Saturday morning, the tournament has a line-in-the-water start time of 7:30am. Fishing will take place between Beach Access #3 and Beach Access #42. The official lines-out-of-the-water time is 3:30pm. At 5:30pm, a social, dinner, and awards ceremony will be held at the Harborside Pavilion.
Sunday, October 25th – If you’re visiting Bald Head Island for the Bluefish Bonanza Surfcasting Tournament, then why not make a weekend out of it and spend Sunday exploring everything the Island has to offer? There’s plenty to see and do, or just visit the Bald Head Island Marina to relax for the day before having to return to work on Monday.
Prizes, Prizes, Prizes!
The Bluefish Bonanza Fishing Tournament has prize tiers based on age groups, so it’s the perfect family event because everyone can participate. Awards are based on total weight of the day's catch along with a largest bluefish award in each age bracket and amounts are estimated based on sponsorship and participant minimums. Here is how the awards break down per age group:
Adult Anglers (ages 16 and up)
Junior Anglers (ages 6 to 15)
Pee-Wee Anglers (ages 5 and under)
The tournament package price for each age group includes Tournament fees, Friday Fishing School, Welcome Bag, T-shirt, Friday Dinner, Box Lunch Saturday, and Dinner/Awards Banquet Saturday Night. Junior and Pee-Wee anglers must be accompanied by a registered adult. The tournament package prices are:
Early-Bird Registration (through September 30)
Late Registration (October 1 through Day of Tournament)
